Yahoo! Address Book Errors

March 23rd, 2009 by Bruce

Last week I have been encountering errors when trying to use the address book through messenger. If I delete a contact then I keep getting an error when the server returns and asks if I want to remove them from my addressbook as well. Which is kind of silly if you ask me, if I am deleting the contact, I want the address book information gone as well. Seriously.. But anyway, here is the Yahoo! response..

As you may or may not know, Yahoo! Messenger is integrated with the Yahoo! Address Book (part of Yahoo! Mail). As a result, when they are doing any kind or maintenance, upgrades or server work, it can result in some Yahoo! Messenger users encountering errors when they try to make changes to their address book content.

Currently, the Yahoo! Address Book team is upgrading some of their servers over the next few weeks. As a result, you may occasionally run into these types of errors.

As a workaround, you can try the edit again later in Yahoo! Messenger or to make your changes right away, head over to http://address.mail.yahoo.com and make your changes directly on the Address Book site.

Again, these types of errors are usually temporary and can be worked around by making changes directly on the Address Book site. Thanks for your patience,

Yahoo! Briefcase to shut down.

March 4th, 2009 by Bruce

If you have a yahoo mail account or a yahoo account in general you would have received a lovely little message from Yahoo! saying that the Yahoo! Briefcase service is closing. The briefcase service will be closing on Tuesday, March 30, 2009. After this date, you will be unable to access Yahoo! Briefcase or your files within the Yahoo! Briefcase account.

According to the Yahoo! help section this is the reason:

Why? Because, in a Web 2.0 world where Yahoo! Mail has unlimited storage and Flickr offers media sharing, users and services have outgrown what the Yahoo! Briefcase service can provide. As such, Yahoo! is closing Yahoo! Briefcase to focus our efforts elsewhere.

I must confess I really haven’t used this service for quite a number of years, it was never really all that good to begin with. I am wondering if any of you have used it and what your thoughts are on it?

Just as the headline reads folks. The Yahoo! Music store is now shutting the doors. It is urging its customers to burn their purchased music to CD. Which for all of you that have paid for this service, i would suggest doing that pronto!! You wont be able to share music either, from what I understand however they will be teaming up with Rhapsody. Which I don’t know why, they could have gone for a better situation if you ask me. Rhapsody. seriously.. gross..

Adobe, Google, Yahoo Team Up for Flash Search

July 17th, 2008 by Brandon

In a move long in the Making, Adobe Systems is teaming up with Search Engine leaders to make Flash content more Searchable. This should have quite the impact on a lot of sites that are now having to clone content in order for them to rank anywhere in the search engines. Although I doubt that it will be as good. My advice is to stick w/ duplicating content from flash to html form and cloaking the content based on user agent / ip address.

July 17th, 2008 by Brandon

The central complaint revolves around slow decision-making, a long-standing issue. New services still must run a gauntlet of meetings and approvals that can delay them for months. “It was difficult to get things done,” says Greg Yardley, a product manager who left earlier this year.
