According to a blog post over on the Yahoo! Messenger blog there is a new import contact feature. This was mainly implimented due to the new overhaul of the Yahoo! Messenger Web. Here is what the Yahoo Messenger team has to say.

Now you can add friends to your Yahoo! Messenger contact list from address books you have on other online services like Gmail, AOL, Hotmail, Orkut…22 services in all. You can even import contacts from Outlook. Here’s how it works…

So basically you can import yahoo messenger friends from a list of social networking sites/standard e-mail.
